Why do I desire this ? or that?

Finish the question "I desire________".   All people desire; "to wish or long for, express a wish to obtain," The very word indicates seeking something other than an item or action, rather the word "desire" reveals that what we seek is a means to something higher. If I have this or that, I will be "happy, or at peace" or some other end. This is why we desire.

The word "Desire" etymologically  means "from the stars".  From the beginning of time mankind has oriented where he was and where he was going by the stars.  In our time we still use  landmarks as points of reference to get from point "a" to point "b."  More times than not, point "b" resides even after the achieving the destination, to see someone we love, or acquire something for that love.

The question we should ask ourselves is "Why am I navigating my life by this "star"?  Where will the star I follow lead me? to receive love? to give love? or to the negative? to feel superior? to lead me astray? feed an addiction which will make me feel less than I am?  Our rightly ordered "desire" is the means we use to get where want to be : Loved, fulfilled in a meaningful life; while our disordered desires lead us astray. 

Christ on The Cross, is the ultimate point of reference we have to go to heaven, where Love truly resides.... FOREVER!

This is why we should contemplate, Why I desire ____________.  Ultimately, we will come to realize "why" in the words of St Augustine : "You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You."
